25 May Why Bournemouth beats London as the fastest growing digital economy

If you’re working in digital the chances are you already know that Bournemouth was recently ranked as the fastest growing digital economy in the UK beating the likes of London and Brighton (according to the latest Tech Nation report). So why aren’t we surprised? And what makes Bournemouth such a special place to do digital?

I believe the secret is a heady mix of true collaboration, an open minded culture, a bit of sea air, a few too many shandy’s and a serious amount of talent. Talent breeds talents and there is nothing like some seriously talented neighbours to keep you on your toes and ensure you’re performing at the top of your game. Not only that – we don’t take ourselves too seriously and it’s this lack of ego that enables us to be open minded enough to share the wealth of our experience amongst our peers. Our generous ability to share and collaborate lies at the heart of this success story; it enables us to get things done fast and to a standard that rivals large cities. We realise our strength lies together as well as playing to our own individual unique talents.

The creativity surfacing from this once sleepy seaside town is getting the respect and recognition from our UK digital peers. Bournemouth University and the AUB are certainly contributing with world class calibre graduates and the commitment from organisations such as Silicon South and Meetdraw mean there’s a real focus on nurturing and growing the south coast digital economy. It’s gaining momentum and proving to be a wonderful place to ‘do digital’. A gorgeous beach, a thriving economy, a premier league football team (did we mention that?) – there seems to be something compelling and infectious about what’s happening here in Dorset. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to come and take a look – we’re confident you’ll like what you see.
